Legendary guide Tom Wilson first discovered Emerald Lake in 1882 during the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The CPR built the original guest lodge in 1902. By the mid-1920s the lodge had been expanded and road improvements made it possible to reach the resort by car.
The Canadian Government has permitted no additional development in the area. It remains one of Canada's most outstanding year-round accessible wilderness settings.
Following extensive renovations in 1986, Emerald Lake Lodge re-opened as an exclusive year-round vacation and business destination. Sounds like a romantic travel destination to me!
The Lodge was built of hand crafted timber. It's got a great West Coast feel to it. There are massive stone fireplaces and a formal dining room. For those avid readers... a quiet sitting room. In the games room a huge billiard table.
The Kicking Horse Lounge is a great spot for a glass of wine by the oak bar. It was salvaged from an 1890's Yukon saloon.
The views from upper or lower large verandas, are always fresh and breath-taking. Emerald Lake proudly welcomes those in search of the extraordinary. It's a true escape from our hectic schedules...

Emerald Lake Lodge is located 20 minutes west of Lake Louise and just over an hour from Banff. All an easy drive surrounded by mountains and wildlife.
Because this lodge is in the Yoho National Park there is a national park fee. Same as the Banff National Park. This fee is to maintain these national parks...well worth the investment once you visit and see your surroundings.
Take the Trans Canada Highway heading West towards Field and Golden BC. The turnoff to Emerald Lake Lodge is located 1 km on the highway past Field, BC. Follow the road for 6km until you see a sign that says "Overnight Guest Parking". Turn left into the parking lot. In the parking lot is a cabin. Use the telephone in the cabin to call the front desk to have the shuttle pick you up and bring you to the main lodge. This is the start of your luxury vacation...
Dotting the 13-acre peninsula at Emerald Lake Lodge are 24 cabin-style buildings, all non-smoking. No guest rooms in the main lodge.Each room has a private bath, balconies and wood burning fieldstone fireplaces. The staff comes daily to stock your firewood, all complimentary.
Lovely feather duvets and pillows make for a great nights sleep.
Telephones, in-room coffee makers, hair dryers and alarm clocks are also included.
No televisions and no internet access in any of the rooms. If you need to catch the score of a game, there's a television in the games room in the main lodge. There's no cell service in the entire area of Yoho National Park.
Lodge rooms have one queen-size bed, one king-size bed or two double beds, a sitting area in front of the fireplace and a private balcony.
Lake rooms have one king-size bed, a spacious sitting area with a double pull out sofa in front of the fireplace and a private balcony overlooking the lake.
Emerald suites are available in two configurations: studios or one bedroom suites. Rooms have one queen-size bed, spacious sitting area with double pull out sofa in front of the fireplace. Private half wrap around balcony overlooking the lake.
The Lodge's most exclusive suite. It has a master bedroom with king-size bed, French doors lead to a spacious living area with a double pull out sofa. Room offers one and a half bathrooms including a whirlpool bath, a dining area with refrigerator, wrap around balcony and the premier view of Emerald Lake. This is what luxury vacations are all about!!!
There is a $25.00 charge for each additional person 18 years of age and older. PST (8%) and G.S.T. (5%) are NOT included and these taxes are subject to change. There is a $25.00 charge for all cot requests.
A credit card is required to guarantee reservations at the time of booking. Reservations must be canceled 72 hours prior to scheduled arrival date to avoid one night room and tax cancellation fee. During the festive season reservations must be canceled two weeks prior to scheduled arrival date. Summer cancellation policy is June 1 - September 30 and is 14 days prior to arrival.

Late Check Out Policy
Check out time is 11:00am. Should you need some extra time to check out, you can request this in advance. The staff will try to accommodate you but a late check out is not guaranteed. Should the late checkout be possible the following rates will be applied:

13h00 – 15h00 - a charge of $50.00
15h00 – 18h00 - half of the overnight charge

Dining at Emerald Lake Lodge
In our dining room, lounge and bar at Emerald Lake Lodge you can sample Rocky Mountain Cuisine, that goes back to both the lavish Victorian cooking done on the CPR rail cars.
The menu is Canadiana Cuisine... wild berries, wild mushrooms and game meats produced on the owners farm....comfort food produced in a spectacular way. All dishes are beautifully presented and professionally served. Their wine list is extensive and features many award winning Canadian wines from central British Columbia, and includes a large selection of hard to find vintners' reserve wines.
The Event's wine list received the coveted Wine Spectator "Best of Award of Excellence" in 2004 and boasts over 400 outstanding local and international selections.
It is strongly recommended that guests make dinner reservations when booking accommodation at the Emerald Lake Lodge.... Reservations will not be made automatically. We would like all our guests to have the opportunity to savor our mouth-watering Rocky Mountain Cuisine!

Cilantro On The Lake
At Cilantro on the Lake, we've created a magnificent post and beam architectural structure. Pictures just don't convey the beauty of the open-timber, vaulted-ceiling mountain lodge. Life is too short not to enjoy these surroundings. Open in the summer for romantic dining.

Events & Activities
Hiking, Rock Climbing and Day Tours
Lots of things to do at Emerald Lake Lodge....Explore the second highest waterfall in Canada - Takakkaw Falls. It's 384 metres from it's base. Also enjoy the beauty of Lake O'Hara, the Natural Bridge, the Burgess Shale or the Spiral Tunnels (the CPR train track inside a mountain). We can also arrange guides or provide maps and directions. The surrounding mountains and wilderness offer something for every level of hiking/mountaineering experience and fitness.
A variety of hikes may be available at certain times of year departing from the lodge. Please ask our front desk at check-in if there are currently any hikes being offered. Parks Canada may also offer a variety of guided hikes.
There are countless mountain bike trails and numerous road riding options in Banff and Lake Louise. Biking is an excellent way to explore this very special place. Trails range from easy to difficult and the biking season typically extends from May to October.
White Water Rafting
White water rafting down the Kicking Horse River, exhilarating and wet! Numerous outfitters available.
The nearby boathouse rents canoes and accessories to our guests - an excellent way to fully appreciate the beauty and tranquility of Emerald Lake. With a backdrop of magnificent Mount Burgess towering overhead. What a romantic afternoon on the water....pack a lunch and enjoy! Another proposal idea maybe!!!!
Fishing is available at Emerald Lake from July 1st - October 31st (Please note permits are required) Other nearby fishing spots are: Wapta Lake, Ross Lake, Moraine Lake, Kicking Horse River and Fly Fishing in Golden.
X-Country Skiing & Snowshoeing
There are numerous established and brand new trails around Emerald Lake that are marked and mapped. Ski rentals and instruction are available.
The Canadian Rocky Mountains are home to some of the best skiing in North America, consistently ranked alongside Whistler/Blackcomb and Vail/Aspen. Nearby are some fabulous ski areas.
A portion of Emerald Lake near Cilantro is cleared for ice skating. Another romantic idea for your weekend getaway!!
