Canmore is the home of the world class Nordic Centre where the 1989 Nordic Olympic events were held. There are over 71 kilometers of multi-use trails with the town limits...so a great place to host a running race. This quaint town of 12,000 residents was once a coal mining town. The mines closed their doors in 1979 and now is a vibrant recreational tourist destination.
Canmore offfers great accommodations for the race if you want to make it a weekend getaway! Lots of quaint shops, art galleries and superb restaurants make this Canmore Half Marathon a must do!
The Canmore half marathon route takes you through the woodlands of Canmore, and a historic mine site plus fabulous views of the Three Sisters Chain. The run is a combination of asphalt and good quality gravel with several short climbs and beautiful winding paths.
Now the 10k race and walk is definitely for beginners and experts alike. It starts in the middle of Canmore, takes you thru town and along the Bow River, once again with stunning views of the mountains surrounding you! What I like the best about this course is that it is relatively flat with very little change in elevation....
The 5km run or walk is perfect for those wanting to enjoy a beautiful day in the Rockies. This running race is great for all running levels. It's fast, fun and run in the middle of town.
