A very special place.....

Storm Mountain Lodge was constructed in 1922. It was one of eight Bungalow Camps built by the Canadian Pacific Railway to promote tourism in the Rocky Mountains. The original lodge and bungalows are still enjoyed by guests today.

The Banff- Windermere Highway officially opened June 1923. The road reaches its highest point at Vermillion Pass, elevation 1708 m (5623 ft.). This is where the Storm Mountain Lodge was built to capture the incredible views. In the early 1920's the Canadian Pacific proclaimed this route as the most spectacular motor trip on the continent. And still is today....

A restoration project of Storm Mountain Lodge on all the historic buildings began in 2003. The interior and exterior of each cabin was being completely restored to retain their 1922 authenticity.

December 17, 2004, marked another important historical date as Storm Mountain Lodge opened to guests for the first time in the winter. Now Storm Mountain can be experienced in all its winter splendor.

A little trivia...in the past, Storm Mountain has also been known as Castle Mountain Bungalow Camp and Mount Eisenhower Bungalow Camp.

Storm Mountain Lodge

Cabins...

Experience the warmth and charm of a historic log cabin in spectacular Banff National Park.

Stay and relax in front of a wood burning stone fireplace. Soak in quaint antique clawfoot tubs with brass fixtures, then settle into a handcrafted log bed under a down duvet.

The cabin decor is of the highest quality, yet still reflects the rustic, historic charm of a heritage cabin in a remote mountain setting.

There are fourteen original log cabins constructed in the early 1920's and all completely restored on the interior in 2003. The cabins are well spaced for privacy on a forested site.

The staff ensure the cabins are immaculately clean!!!

One tip...... when starting your first fire in your own cozy cabin....make sure you pile the wood to the very back of the fireplace to ensure all the smoke goes up the chimney.

We didn't do that and within a few moments we couldn't see a thing....we frantically opened the doors and windows to air everything out in chilly November!!!!

All cabins and our lodge are non-smoking.

Storm Mountain Lodge offers Pet Friendly Lodging. Well behaved pets are accepted. An additional charge of $25.00 per day is applicable.

All the breads, deserts and breakfast pastries are baked on site. You must try their scones.....about 3 inches high and fresh, fresh, fresh...we had a craving for them, jumped into the car for the 110 minutes drive from Calgary for brunch!!!... what a nice drive early in the morning thru the mountains!!! A great way to start the day!!

The dining room has an extensive wine list drawn exclusively from carefully selected Canadian vintages.

You can choose from a lighter menu in the lounge. They can simple relax around a roaring fire and enjoy a great cappuccino or a crisp glass of wine. This should be on your list of how to relieve stress...this will definitely do it!
