SilverTip Golf Course
Ranked Third in Westworld's
Top Ten Golf Destinations in Canada
SilverTip Golf Course is considered one of North America’s most challenging courses. The design shows the site’s dramatic elevation changes - nearly 183 m (600 ft).
This is mountain golfing or is it mountain climbing!! Even the mountain goats are skeptical !!!! Expect epic tee shots.
This challenging course is located a 20 minute drive south of Banff. It's located in Canmore just before the entrance to Banff National Park. This region offers spectacular views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains, and stands at the edge of an immense, untouched wilderness reserve.
SilverTip Golf Course has 600 acres of peaks, grasslands and valleys perched on the mountainside of Mount Lady MacDonald. It's the only resort in the entire region on the south-facing side of the mountains. This means long, warm days on the links or sitting on the clubhouse deck.
SilverTip Golf Course calls itself the course "where nature plays through."Canmore resident Les Furber, who designed SilverTip and 100 more courses worldwide, calls it an "extreme golf experience."
It may sound like just another attempt to appeal to everyone's sense of adventure, but SilverTip just may be as extreme as golf can get. Nearly everything about SilverTip is extreme. With it's initial positive ratings it received after opening in 1998, it's doubtful there's another course like SilverTip anywhere else in the world!!!
Les Furber, master designer of golf courses worldwide, is the talent behind Silvertip’s breathtaking golf experience. The par-72 course has 600 feet of elevation change and mind-boggling championship tees with a slope rating of 153.
However, with course length between 5,100 to 7,200 yards depending on tee placement, it’s a course that allows both scratch golfers and recreational players to enjoy the course and hone their skills.

Looking for Bachelor Party Ideas??? This might fit the bill....gather the wedding party together for a round of golf. Maybe some golf tips from a pro to work on that swing. Enjoy some brews on the 19 hole.... relaxation at Stoney's (Best Patio Award). This course is south facing so you've got sun all day!!!Makes for a perfect day.....a great Canadian Holiday..
For SilverTip Golf Course the main concern was finding a way to create a golf course on a very rocky piece of Rocky Mountain acreage. SilverTip sits on a bench overlooking the floor of the Rocky Mountain Valley. This made things more difficult when building a traditional valley course.
SilverTip sits on a bench in the mountains. Golfers are able to look across the valley and not just up at the mountains. This provides different scenery and perspective than most golfers are used to.
SilverTip resides at 5,000 feet above sea level. The lower density of the air can force a different type of game!!!! Balls really will fly farther. Just ask any professional baseball pitcher who's thrown against the Rockies at Colorado's Coors Field.
Interesting...your ball can travel as much as two percent per 1,000 feet further. In other words, at SilverTip, any given drive or approach shot can travel almost 10 percent further than the same shot at sea level. That's a nice advantage to have....
Other challenges include the course's tough 153 Slope rating from the back tees and its 7,200 yards of distance.
Boasting one of the greatest elevation changes of any course in the world, SilverTip has several holes with over 100 feet of elevation change. It has over 600 feet of elevation change over the whole course. This can make judging distances much more difficult.
The scenery at Silvertip Golf Course goes beyond the mountain backdrop, pine trees and bushes. Several wildlife corridors run through the course.
In fact, SilverTip is named after a rare type of grizzly bear. The chance of running across some area wildlife is pretty good ...what an opportunity to see some wildlife in their own environment. You can quite often see bear, deer, elk, coyotes and lynx in the area. This is all as part of your Canadian Holiday experience.
SilverTip does seems to appeal. In 1999, it ranked as the second best new course in Canada according to Golf Digest.
SilverTip is an extreme golf experience. In fact, that may be an understatement. Its closeness of nature, it's mountain landscape and challenging golf.... make SilverTip Golf Course, one of the most exciting courses around. It's become "extreme"ly popular.
