Lake Louise Gondola -
Looking for a bit of an adrenaline rush....the kids will love it.
You're almost guaranteed to see some wildlife animals. There are almost daily sightings of grizzlies in the summer! It's been said that, mornings are the best chance to see wildlife!
So if the bears are napping....then enjoy some pretty magnificent views! With high power binoculars you can see for 20 kms or so! Don't forget your camera...there are wildlife photos galore.
You can choose an open chairlift or ride in an enclosed gondola. It's really nice to have the option especially with kids. Be prepared for a Visitor Welcome Orientation to give you information on your unique surroundings.
There's definitely great value if you take the Lake Louise Gondola and include breakfast or lunch at the Lodge of Ten Peaks. The food is great!
If you're looking for something a little lighter or a "Starbucks" then take the gondola up first to the Whitehorn Viewpoint Cafe. Grab a coffee, deli sandwich or ice cream and enjoy stunning views from 6850 feet!
At the top, you walk a short distance uphill or take a complimentary ride to the information centre. The Wildlife Interpretative Centre will lead you thru the landscape, help you identify wildlife and learn about early explorers. This program was given an award for excellence in natural heritage education throughout the Banff National Park.
The Lake Louise Gondola offers guided walks 3 times a day. This walk is called the Trail of the Great Bear. Hear what you need to do if you see a bear and how to be safe and some general bear information!
To ensure a good time you should be moderately in shape and wear good walking footgear.
The Lake Louise Gondola opens in early spring and closes in late fall dependent on weather....but fall is a beautiful time in the Canadian Rockies.
Visit this area and experience the "Guides Eye View". You'll soon discover why fall is so special here!
Find out about the larch tree and why it's such a unique species of evergreen. Learn how plants and wildlife begin to get ready for the harsh winter to come.
Here's a little guy I saw this fall up at Lake Louise!
There are frequent sightings almost daily! Just imagine seeing...big bears (grizzly, black or brown), moose, big horn sheep, cougars, deer and many others.
When I was there the guides at the interpretative centre shared some interesting information, they'd seen 13 different bears and a pair of orphaned grizzly bears this season.
Their mom had been killed on the railway tracks while eating grain spilled from a railcar.
This is so much to see and do at the Lake Louise Gondola. You could definitely make a day of it. Well worth the visit!
