Banff Springs Golf Course
The Banff Springs Golf Course, in the beautiful Banff National Park, is stunning!!!!
This course has been around since the early 1900's.
It's one of those special places....where you just gotta do it!!!!
Banff Golf really is nothing short of heaven.
The Banff Springs Golf course was re-designed by Stanley Thompson back in 1928. Something interesting...it was the first golf course in history to cost over one million dollars in 1928...wow!!!
Once you see the course, you can't imagine how they did what they did. How hundreds of workers removed rocks, hauled earth in and shaped this course into what it is today.
Banff is anything but "soft". "We wanted to restore the work of Stanley Thompson but still provide an adequate challenge for the world-class player," said Doug Wood, Banff's longtime Director of Golf. They've done just that.... as the recent scores from a professional tournament at Banff course did indicate.... an even par score of 71 was low!!!! Maybe a few golf tips are in order.
Unfortunately for the golfer, getting a tee time at the Banff Springs Golf Course can be tough (not to mention a little pricey). Nonetheless, your money will be well spent on this "million dollar" gem.
Silvertip Golf Course
SilverTip Golf Course is located only minutes from Canmore and the boundaries of Banff National Park. It is nothing short of heaven. Silvertip is considered one of North America’s most challenging courses.
The design exploits the site’s dramatic elevation changes nearly 183 m (600 ft). This is mountain golfing akin to mountain climbing. Expect epic tee shots. It received third place in Westworld magazine’s “Top Ten Golf Destinations of Canada.”
Canmore resident Les Furber, who designed Silvertip and 100 more courses worldwide, calls it an "extreme golf experience."It may sound like just another attempt to appeal to everyone's sense of adventure, but Silvertip just may be as extreme as golf can get. This course definitely requires a few golf tips to help you enjoy your day.
Nearly everything about SilverTip is extreme. From its conception, to its design, and to the extremely positive ratings, it received after opening in 1998. It's doubtful there's another course like SilverTip anywhere else in the world.
The region offers spectacular views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains, and stands at the edge of an immense, untouched wilderness reserve.
Stephen Ames says, “As a professional, I’ve golfed all over the world and I find the Silvertip Golf Course to be one of the most spectacular I’ve ever played. It's just one reason I’ve chosen Silvertip as my home resort course. Between Les Furber’s incredible layout and the scenery, it is easy to see why.”
He ranks 62nd in Money Leaders on the PGA TOUR.
Both parents of Stephen Ames were born in Trinidad...He's the first touring professional to emerge from Trinidad and Tobago...
Met his Canadian wife, Jodi, a former flight attendant, on a flight between tournaments...Was be a torch bearer for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary...
Part owner of several restaurants in Calgary, Alberta, including the Vintage Chophouse & Tavern...
He started the Stephen Ames Foundation in 2005. It purpose is to provide funding for junior golf programs and other children's initiatives in Canada, Trinidad and Tobago.
